In the latest update from the semicon world, the CEO of Japanese semiconductor giant Renesas Electronics Corporation, Toshi Shibata met PM Modi earlier this week. The two discussed technology and innovation, while also talking about India’s emerging role in the world of semiconductors. Not disclosing the details, the company posted their picture and tweeted: Our CEO Toshi Shibata met with India’s PM @narendramodi to discuss the role that our industry plays & how we can contribute to India’s vision for a digital future. We’re committed to enabling #semiconductor ecosystem and digital infrastructure in #India. @PMOIndia #digitalization
To this, PM Modi tweeted: Had a productive meeting with Mr Toshi Shibata, CEO of @RenesasGlobal. We discussed aspects relating to tech, innovation and India’s strides in the world of semiconductors.
With the government leaving no stone unturned to fuel semiconductor manufacturing in the country, the latest meeting is expected to precede a major announcement in the near future. It is noteworthy that the Semicon India Programme was initiated by the government in late 2021 to catalyse the semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in India. A sum of Rs 76,000 crore was allocated for this initiative. Furthermore, a series of roadshows are being organised by the Electronics Ministry organises roadshows across India with the aim to encourage and catalyse the startups’ ecosystem in the semiconductor design and manufacturing space. The latest was held at IIT-Delhi recently.
