Thursday, December 25, 2014: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has developed number of projects to help the city go green. Apart from 60KW and 50KW solar energy systems, installed at the west zone and east zone, respectively, of the RMC, the corporation is now further planning to install the solar energy systems at the central zone office as well.
RMC will also install 25KV PV solar system at Krishnanagar Civic Centre and standalone systems of 10 kW at two municipal schools, particularly to meet the complete energy consumption of the schools. While talking to TOI, Vijay Nehra, municipal commissioner had told about the RMC plans to revive the solar energy park at Race course. He said the they are in discussions with ICLEI-local Governments for Sustainability (world network of around 1,000 cities and towns working for sustainable future), to consider this park for educational purpose. The park will give an insight of the importance of cutting carbon emissions to the 1000’s of people visiting Race Course daily.
RMC has also initiated decentralized waste water treatment system in city. Under this system, RMC has identified the land near Jilla Garden for treating the sewage water. All these projects are being promoted under URBAN LEDS (Urban Low Emission Development Strategies), funded by the European Union.
