The energy policy, which was recently approved by the state will directly lead to job opportunities
The New and Renewable Energy Policy- 2012, Punjab will result in numerous job opportunities. It is also expected to attract an estimated investment of Rs 180 billion. Around 25,000 people in the state will be employed, says Bikram Singh Majithia, the Non-Conventional Energy minister of the state.
Majithia said that the revolutionary policy would change the energy dynamics of the state and also brighten employment scenario as well. Apart from attracting large investments, this will generate 10 per cent of the total power installed capacity thus bridging the gap between demand and supply. The usage of clean resources will result in less use of minerals for power generation since they are fast depleting.

The new targets of power generation have been fixed by various modes – solar, biomass and co-generation power projects. The largest share is to come from solar power with an estimated capacity of 1,000 MW, followed by biomass with 600 MW and rest from hydel projects.
In the interest of farmers, agricultural land can also be used to establish renewable energy power projects in Punjab and no CLU, EDC or any other charges/fees will need to be paid, Majithia added.
