Monday, September 02, 2013: Kris Gopalakrishnan, chairman of the Karnataka Vision Group on IT and president of CII said that India should promote the growth of the electronics manufacturing sector if it wishes to reduce dependence on imported components. He stated this on Friday while he was delivering the keynote address at a conference in Mangalore on ‘Future of IT and electronics.’
Apart from this, he informed that the country was involved in the imports of electronics components that amounted to almost $100 billion. Moreover, the import of these components are supposed to reach $400 billion by the year 2018.
In addition to it, he also provided recommendations to the Government that it should make an effort to enable investors to fund the sector. The Government should try to make it easy as well as affordable for investors to make investments in the sector. In comparison to global growth rate, the India IT sector was growing at a growth rate of 12-14 per cent, he added.
The conference witnessed the presence of more than 200 delegates. More than 24 experts from all over India took part in the panel discussions including Mohammed Ameen, President of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gopikrishnan Konnanath, Head of Development Centre, Mangalore at Infosys, Naren Konduvattat, MD, i-Point, Vishal Hegde, Trustee, Nitte Education Trust and few others.
