Tuesday, October 14, 2014: The power ministry on Wednesday announced a business model which would enable the sale of LEDs to households at the minimal cost of Rs. 10 as against the market price of Rs. 400. As per the model, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will procure bulk LED bulbs and sale them at the cost Rs. 10 to the households. The distribution companies will then repay EESL in a period of five to eight years.
It was worked upon by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), along with the electricity distribution companies (discoms).
EESL last week completed the procurement of two million LEDs, under the MoU between, EESL and the Andhra Pradesh government.
On Thursday, Andhra Pradesh CM, N. Chandrababu Naidu introduced the Energy Conservation Mission’s Demand Side Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) in AP, to promote the replacement of incandescent bulbs with energy efficient LED bulbs.
The programme involves over 3.7 million households, who will get two high quality LED bulbs for Rs. 10. It will start from Guntur, and later would be followed by Anantapur, West Godavari and Srikakulam districts.
