According to a report by Economic Times, Haryana-based PMI Electro and Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD Olectra have bagged large contracts for the tender floated by state transport agencies to supply electric buses. The report added that they were followed by Tata Motors, JBM Auto and Mytrah as per people aware of the development.
Olectra-BYD bags contracts for about 600 electric buses
As per the report, PMI Electro Mobility Solutions has got the contract for about 750 electric buses in the tenders that have been finalised so far. This company has a technical tie-up with Chinese company Beiqi Foton Motors. Olectra-BYD has bagged contracts for about 600 electric buses from city transport corporations. These include Surat, Bhopal, and Indore. Gurgaon-based JBM Auto has won the contract for the supply of 100 electric buses in Navi Mumbai. The report said that sources said that the company was the lowest bidder in tenders for 480 electric buses in Ahmedabad, Navi Mumbai, and Delhi.
Government is planning to invest around $1.4 billion under FAME II
Under FAME II, the government is planning to invest around $1.4 billion over the three years. It will be used for building capacity for 10 lakh two-wheelers, five lakh three-wheelers, 55K four-wheelers, and 7K e-buses that operate on lithium-ion batteries. The government also wants to deploy at least 5K e-buses on the Indian roads.
