Eyeing Pixel’s growth and manufacturing in India, there was a new appointment at Google recently. Mitul Shah, ex-Apple India sales leader joined to lead its device business.
Google has appointed Mitul Shah, the former head of consumer sales at Apple India, as Managing Director for its Devices and Services business in India. Shah will oversee the Pixel smartphone line and its expansion in the country.
According to the Times of India, this appointment follows Google’s efforts to localise production, including assembling Pixel 8 phones in India with Wowtek Technology India. It supports the government’s ‘Make-in-India’ initiative and takes advantage of the rising demand for premium smartphones in the Indian market.
Sharing the news in a LinkedIn post, Shah expressed his excitement about leading the sales and growth efforts for Google’s Pixel products in India.
A seasoned industry professional, Shah has spent nine years at Apple leading consumer sales in India before taking on this new role. Shah also highlighted that Google has partnered with Foxconn and Dixon to manufacture Pixel smartphones in India locally. He expressed his enthusiasm for working on a product that could bring the power of AI to millions of people in India. He stated, “Pixel is not just another device. It is the platform designed to put the immense power and possibilities of AI in everyone’s pocket.”
When asked about his move from Apple, Shah clarified that it was not a career switch but a continuation of his mission to provide cutting-edge technology to Indian consumers. He emphasised the opportunity to contribute to AI innovation and provide meaningful experiences for the people of India alongside a talented and dedicated team.
