As per a report by Reno Gazette Journal, Tesla partner Panasonic will suspend operations at the companies’ Nevada gigafactory to curb the spread of COVID19 virus pandemic. This factory makes batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). The report said that the factory will ramp down production early this week and then close for 14 days. It added that Panasonic will use this time to thoroughly clean the facility.
Does not cover Tesla employees
The report added that the company announced that that it will send 3,500 workers home for at least two weeks beginning early next week. The company spokesman Alberto Canal said that workers will receive pay and benefits for the duration. The report also said that this decision of Panasonic will not cover the Tesla employees working at the factory.
Closer to home, in January this year, Panasonic Corporation’s Indian subsidiary Panasonic Life Solutions said that it is aiming to expand its electric vehicle charging offerings in the country. The company is aiming for a Rs 500 crore revenue from its solar business in the next three to four years.
