March 21, 2015: Consumer electronics giant Panasonic India is focusing on expanding its solar products portfolio and is aiming at capturing 5 per cent market share in this sector within a year.
“We are focusing more on solar products. We are expanding our products offering and looking at capturing 5 per cent market share in a year’s time in the solar segment. We are working towards that,” Panasonic India managing director Manish Sharma told PTI.
Panasonic currently sells solar lanterns in India.
“Going forward, our intention is to get into larger business of solar panels,” Sharma added.
As a part of Panasonic’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) project, it has allocated 9000 solar lanterns in two years to people who have no access to electricity.
The company plans to distribute another 5006 units this year through NGOs in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Haryana.
Speaking about new products, Sharma said: “We will introduce a low cost solar LED light and solar home system after six months.
