Optivolt Raises USD32 Million to Scale Solar Power Electronics

Optivolt has raised $32 million to scale its panel-integrated power electronics, designed to reduce energy losses under real-world solar conditions. The company has already shipped more than 20,000 panels incorporating the technology.

Optivolt has raised $32 million in Series A funding to scale manufacturing of its Power Balancer technology, which integrates active power electronics directly into solar panels to manage energy between cell groups in real time. The funding brings the company’s total capital raised to $42 million.

Led by VXI Capital, the round included participation from RA Capital, Valo Ventures and Atlas Innovate. The company plans to use the funds to expand deployment across residential, commercial and utility-scale solar installations, including projects intended to supply AI data centres.

Founded by Rohit Kalyanpur, Optivolt has already shipped more than 20,000 panels incorporating Power Balancer. The technology redistributes energy between cell groups to limit losses caused by partial shading, dirt, debris, weather and uneven panel degradation. It also integrates monitoring and rapid-shutdown functions, potentially reducing the need for separate power-management and safety hardware.

According to Optivolt, Power Balancer achieves 99.4% conversion efficiency under typical conditions. In internal tests under defined shading conditions, the company reported that panels using the technology generated up to six times as much power as panels equipped with external optimisers.

Integrating electronics into solar panels presents thermal-management and long-term reliability challenges. Optivolt says it has applied aerospace design principles, drawing on engineers experienced in developing satellite power systems, to equipment intended to operate for decades without repair.

The company reports holding 19 issued patents, with 27 additional applications pending. It has also received UL certifications covering its integrated junction-box enclosure, panel electronics, rapid-shutdown system and solar-module safety.

Optivolt’s technology aims to improve the energy delivered by solar panels under real-world conditions rather than relying solely on photovoltaic performance under ideal conditions.
