Onsemi Creates Cutting-Edge Semiconductor Labs For Innovation And Progress

Onsemi has shared its plans to set up advanced laboratories for the development and and testing of cutting-edge silicon and silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor elements.

This step has been taken by Onsemi with a partnership of car manufacturers and suppliers. The agenda is to drive innovation in the automotive industry and contribute to the energy infrastructure sector.

There are two latest made high-voltage laboratories that focus on system and device development, evaluating SiC/Si traction inverters and ACDC/DCDC power converters. The laboratories are well equipped. It also provides precise measurements and recording, as well as simulation of real-world conditions experienced by vehicles.

Apart from this announcement, the company has also installed laser welding facilities, clean rooms, and workshops at the site in Piestany, which can be helpful for Onsemi to efficiently develop and evaluate innovative semiconductor technologies.

Efficient semiconductor components play a pivotal role in enhancing the power conversion efficiency of electric vehicle powertrains and charging stations. They help minimize power losses during conversion, resulting in superior overall system efficiency and reduced cooling demands. Moreover, these high-performance semiconductors are also instrumental in the renewable energy sector, contributing significantly to sustainable power generation.

Onsemi has successfully secured multiple supply contracts for SiC (Silicon Carbide) semiconductors with prestigious automotive companies such as Volkswagen, BMW, Zeekr, Stellantis, Vitesco, and Magna. This collaboration underscores Onsemi’s expertise and unwavering commitment to driving technological advancements in the automotive industry, recognized by key players in the field.
