The sales of smartphones through online channels in India is on the rise. The online smartphones sales have recorded a huge growth in the recently concluded festive season.
The online sales of smartphones grew 100% in the festive season as compared to the similar period in the previous year, according to a study by GoPaisa.
First time buyers push sales
Several first time buyers of smartphone have entered the market, thereby substantially increasing the customer base, the report said.
According to the report, other technology products, like laptops, have also recorded a healthy growth. The segment recorded a growth of 150% in the festive season as compared to the amount of sales during the same period last year.
The most sought-after laptop brands were Dell, HP and Lenovo. The laptops under the price range of Rs 30000 recorded the maximum sales, the study noted.
Commenting on the findings, Ankita Jain, Co-founder, GoPaisa, said, “This festive season, tech products have again ruled the roost when it comes to popular purchases, as various platforms shower users with a lot of substantial discounts, deals and cashbacks to make the festival season all the more enjoyable.”
In a city-wise segregation, the study observed that Hyderabad contributed 9.5 per cent of the overall purchases in the festive sale during this year. Bangalore was a close second with 9 per cent purchases, followed by Mumbai with 8 per cent, and New Delhi and Pune with 6.6 per cent each.
Tier 2 cities perform better this year
The Tier 2 cities, which have contributed less than one percent in online sales last year have shown growth this year. The top Tier 2 cities which have maximum increased traction were: Indore recorded 4.6% sales, followed by Patna with 3.4% sales, Kochi (2.6%) and Sonipat (2.5%), according to the study.
