According to a report by Tech2, Firstpost, sources have said that Ola Electric has hired Roger Looney, a senior executive with a Chinese automaker as the head of vehicle engineering. He will be leading the push for electric vehicles.
The report added that Looney had previously worked for 11 years at Qoros Auto. Looney’s expertise includes hybrid and EV development. His last role was that of the vice president, vehicle engineering and electric propulsion.
Vehicles, batteries and charging infrastructure
As per the report, sources said that Looney will focus on building batteries which is a big part of the cost of an EV. Ola has an aim to be a complete electric mobility company. Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal intends to build an electric mobility company that will offer customers everything including vehicles, batteries and charging infrastructure. Ola Electric Mobility was launched in March 2019. It achieved the unicorn status within a span of a few months. SoftBank put in $250 million in the company.
