Wednesday, February 19, 2014: The Odisha Investment & Export Promotion Office (OIEPO) organised an Interactive Meet with many IT/ITES/ESDM companies and industry organisations in New Delhi. The interactive session aimed toto encourage investments in the financially poor state.
The OIEPO houses in the office of the Principal Resident Commissioner of the state. Dr. Sunil Kumar Bhargava, principal resident commissioner, aimed at highlighting the significant achievements of the state during last 10 to 12 years during the meet. He stated that Odisha has carved out a clear road map for IT/ ITES sector with the adoption of new ICT Policy (2014), which gives much incentives to entrepreneurs to invest and grow in IT/ITES sector, as per a report in Orissa Diary.
Major IT/ITES/ESDM companies that attended the Interactive Meet, included Microsoft Corp-India, Lenovo-India, Infosys Technologies, Dell-India, Wee Hours Group, Narnix Technolabs, Frost & Sullivan and JSS Group. Many industry associations like ASSOCHAM, CII, CITE, IESA, MAIT and TAIPA were also present at the Meet.
The meet concentrated over Odisha’s ICT Policy (2014), availability of business environment factors suited for IT/ITES/ESDM, opportunities available for IT/ITES/ESDM to grow, building of an Infocity in Bhubaneswar and Infovalley near Odisha’s capital, IT-economic-social infrastructure in the state, incentives available for the sector under MSME Development Policy (2009), and many micro-level policies like Industrial Policy Resolution (2007) and Odisha Industries Facilitation Act (2004).
Charudatta Panigrahi, the chairman of the Forum for Integrated Development & Research, Bhubaneswar, made a detailed presentation on the efforts made by FIDR to spread India’s largest rural knowledge network in Odisha and other e-governance initiatives.
Favourable business environment created by the state in the recent years has enabled Odisha to be an emerging investment opportunity. Dignitaries like Parag Gupta, principal secretary (Industries Department), Sanjeeb Kumar Mishra, commissioner-cum-secretary (IT Department), Vishal Dev, CMD (IDCO), Panchanan Dash, commissioner-cum-secretary (MSME Department) participated in the meet.
