Tuesday, October 28, 2014: NTPC has reportedly opted for rooftop solar PV panels in their power stations in order to boost utilising renewable sources of energy. With these panels energy requirements will be easily met at their offices. The first rooftop solar panel was launched by NTPC CMD Arup Roy Choudhury at NTPC Engineering Office complex.
This project is a model project by the R&D wing of NTPC, NETRA, and its main functions include remote monitoring, continuous monitoring and studying performance levels. From this newly launched plant, 1,70,000 kWh energy is expected to be generated every year while 163 tonne reduction in carbon dioxide emission is also expected every year. During the launch of the model panel, A.K. Jha, technical director, S.N. Ganguly, ED to CMD, Thomas Joseph , ED at NETRA and other senior officials were present.
The new project has been launched as a part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) grid connection Rooftop Solar PV scheme, Phase II, for which MNRE provides 30 per cent subsidy. NTPC has already installed capacity of 43,128 MW, which is generated by coal, gas and solar power stations. NTPC contributes over 25 per cent electricity in the country. The enterprise has plans to add 11,520MW more by 2032, for which 95 MW solar projects have already been commissioned and one 15MW solar project is under implementation.
