April 9, 2015: NTPC has committed to add 10,000MW through solar projects at RE- Invest – 2015 the First Renewable Energy Global Investment Meet. Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC presented the certificate of commitment to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in the presence of Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy and P.K. Sinha , secretary, power, GOI.
Committed to the solar initiative NTPC has already floated Notice Inviting Tender for four solar project of 250MW each in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telengana and Rajasthan and one solar project of 500MW in Andhra Pradesh. The first 250MW solar project in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh is expected to be awarded this FY. Availability of land and PPA arrangement are being explored in other states like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Puducherry, Gujarat etc.
NTPC has already commissioned 8MW scale solar projects in different parts of India totalling 110MW, out of which Rajgarhsolar project of 50MW in Madhya Pradesh is the largest. NTPC generated more than 100 million units by RE during 2014-15.
