Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), a joint venture company of Tata Power and Government of Delhi, has jointly announced its scheme for TPDDL consumers in North and North West Delhi. This initiative is an effort to encourage use of lighting products that reduce energy consumption.
As per the scheme, the customers can purchase LED bulbs at a discounted rate. These bulbs will be available at its consumer care centers. The consumers are being offered 7 W LED bulbs from Shashara Electronics and Eco Lite at a discounted rate of Rs 349, as compared to the market rate of Rs 399 to 500. These LED bulbs come with a three year warranty.
Talking about the initiative, Praveer Sinha, CEO and ED, TPDDL said, “Apart from judicious use of electricity, switching to LEDs in place of standard bulbs is a simple yet a great way of conserving energy and substantially cutting down on electricity expenditure. We are confident that consumers will adopt efficient lighting methods and aggressively contribute to conserve energy.”
This unique scheme is valid till 31 January, 2013. A 7W LED bulb is said to have a life span of 50,000 hours whereas a standard bulb lasts for 1,200 hours and CFLs have a life span of 10,000 hours. It seems the government and private player, TATA are doing their bit to promote efficient energy consumption as Delhi ranks amongst the top power consumer cities in the country.
