Nissan Ariya EV Set To Launch In India

The Nissan Ariya SUV is set to be marketed in its entirety as a fully imported vehicle.

Following the introduction of the X-Trail in India, Nissan is preparing to introduce the Ariya electric SUV in the upcoming months. This move positions Ariya as Nissan’s competitive offering against international models like Tesla’s Model Y and Volkswagen’s ID.4 SUV.

The Ariya first appeared globally in 2020 and was seen undergoing tests in India last year. Its design closely mirrors the concept showcased 2019, sporting a sleek appearance. The vehicle is built on the CMF-EV platform, a part of the Renault Nissan Alliance, which also supports the Renault Megane e-Tech electric SUV.

In terms of design, the Ariya introduces a new ‘design’ shield, which features an illuminated Nissan logo in select markets. It presents a coupe-like silhouette marked by a strong shoulder line that extends from the front to the rear. Depending on the version and market, the electric SUV is mounted on either 19-inch or 20-inch wheels. The interior boasts a clean, minimalist style with dual 12.3-inch screens dominating a nearly button-free dashboard. A sophisticated haptic control system manages most functions, while the higher-end models include a standard heads-up display and a Bose audio system.

Globally, the Ariya is available in both single-motor, rear-wheel drive, dual-motor, and all-wheel-drive configurations, along with two battery options: 63kWh and 87kWh. The 63kWh variant delivers 217hp and 300Nm of torque with a range of 402km, while the 87kWh variant offers 242hp and 300Nm with a range reaching 529km. The top-of-the-line 87kWh version produces 306hp and 600Nm of torque and boasts a range of up to 513km.

The Ariya also has advanced driver assistance technologies, including an improved version of Nissan’s ProPilot system. In 2022, Euro NCAP awarded it a five-star crash-test rating.

In India, the Ariya SUV is expected to occupy a premium position within Nissan’s portfolio, targeting the upscale SUV segment. The initial batch of units has already been imported in limited numbers, with more information expected to emerge in the near future. Meanwhile, Nissan is also preparing to launch the X-Trail SUV, set to debut on August 1st in India.
