Monday, May 12, 2014: In a clear indication that the country is on the right path to utilise the renewable sources of energy for its ever growing power needs, more and more commercial establishments are now stepping up efforts to usher in the advantages of using solar power for their varied needs. Lack of any noteworthy government policies has not deterred industrial units and commercial establishments from going all out on solar power. Rather early realisation of its economical viability sees companies rampantly switching to the power of the sun.
Marred by the non-availability of grid power here, majority of companies are resorting to the use of commercial rooftop solar systems. This is fueled by the fact that rooftop solar power systems for commercial use have become increasingly economical in the current scenario. Loyal Textiles, Super Auto Forge, TI Cycles, Schwing Stetter and other like-minded companies are now putting up systems of about 100 kilowatt (KW) to facilitate their power needs. Meanwhile, larger organisations like Intel are coming out with 500KW systems to aid the same.
To further fuel the country’s solar power ambitions, the Solar Energy Corporation of India has been recently directed by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to invite project developers, MNRE channel partners, Technology providers, System integrators, Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCO) and EPC Contractors to participate in the Request for Selection (RFS). They have been invited for design, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning including warranty, operation and maintenance for a period of 2 years of Roof Top Solar PV power system in selected Cities/States in India.
