Microsoft has announced the appointment of Pavan Davuluri as the head of its Windows operating system and Surface devices teams, following the departure of Panos Panay, who left to join Amazon. With this change, the previously separated Windows and Surface teams will now be unified under Davuluri’s leadership.
Davuluri has been with Microsoft for nearly 23 years and has contributed to the company’s collaborations with Qualcomm and AMD in developing custom Surface processors. After Panay left, Davuluri managed the Surface division and Mikhail Parakhin was responsible for Windows. Now, Pavan Davuluri is responsible for both the divisions.
Mikhail Parakhin, who previously managed Windows and web experiences, will now report to Microsoft’s technology chief, Kevin Scott, during his transition to a new role. Parakhin left the Windows division as he wanted to explore new roles.
Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s head of experiences and devices, stated that this consolidation aims to take a holistic approach to developing silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud for the AI era.
Microsoft recently announced the creation of a new organisation called Microsoft AI, led by former DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman. This organisation will oversee the company’s AI products, including Copilot, Bing, and Edge. The advertising and web services unit, which includes the Bing search engine and Edge browser, will now be part of Microsoft AI.
