Thursday, April 24, 2014: Taking a significant step in providing the desired boost to the electronics eco-system, homegrown company Micromax has now started manufacturing its smartphones in India. The company has started the process a couple of months back at its Rudraprayag facility in Uttarakhand.
According to a PTI report, a Micromax spokesperson said, “Micromax has manufacturing plant in Rudraprayag where it manufactures LED and tablets. The company started manufacturing mobile phones couple of months back.”
The report also revealed that the company had started producing its tablet devices at the facility but the production of mobile phones has just started and is in its initial stages.
According to industry statistics, Micromax is the second largest players in both mobile phone and tablet PC market in India. The Indian manufacturer enjoys a 13 per cent market share in the total mobile phone market, with a 16 per cent share in the smartphone segment, stated the IDC report. The company sold 4.14 million tablet PCs in 2013, holding a market share of 8.9 per cent.
