Monday, November 11, 2013: Leading domestic smartphone maker, Micromax is reportedly going to start assembling their smartphones out of India. According to reports, the smartphone maker is going to assemble its smartphone at its plant in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. Micromax is expected to begin from as early as the first quarter of 2014. The company has been taking some rapid steps since becoming the leading smartphone maker in the domestic market.
The company has announced its intentions to foray into the Russian market as a stepping stone to creating a business in the European market. Moreover, it has hired Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman as its brand ambassador for the new Micromax Canvas Turbo smartphones. The Canvas Turbo is also Micromax’s first full HD device. Also, along with Xolo, Micromax is the second domestic manufacturer planning to come up with a 4G smartphone.
Micromax’s Rudrapur facility reportedly employs more than 400 people. Currently, the company imports its smartphones and tablets from China. For this, Micromax has deals with manufacturers like Foxconn. Further, Rahul Sharma, cofounder of Micromax, told PTI that the company closed last year at around Rs 3,168 crore. In addition, Sharma also said that Micromax is planning to double the turnover to about Rs 6,00 billion by the end of the financial year.
