MHI Reviews Technical Bids For 10 GWh Advanced Cell Manufacturing

The seven bidders are ACME Cleantech Solutions, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, Anvi Power Industries, JSW Neo Energy, Reliance Industries, Lucas TVS, and Waaree Energies.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has initiated the process of opening technical bids for production-linked incentives (PLI) aimed at supporting the manufacture of 10 GWh of Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC), as announced by Dr Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries.

On April 23, Dr Qureshi confirmed that the technical bids were opened, revealing participation from seven prominent Indian companies. These firms are set to contribute to the establishment of a 10 GWh indigenous manufacturing capacity for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) production.

The companies participating in the bidding process are leaders in the zero-emission technologies sector, including ACME Cleantech Solutions, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, Anvi Power Industries, JSW Neo Energy, Reliance Industries, Lucas TVS, and Waaree Energies.

Following comprehensive preparations and a bidding process, the Indian government issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) on January 24, 2024. This RFP aims to set up ACC manufacturing facilities with a collective capacity of 10 GWh and is backed by a budgetary provision of Rs 3,620 crore. The bids were solicited through a global tender as part of the re-bidding for the PLI scheme dedicated to the 10 GWh ACC production. These efforts are integral to the Government of India’s strategy to enhance local production capabilities in electric vehicle manufacturing and grid-scale energy storage across the nation.

In May 2021, the Cabinet sanctioned the technology-neutral PLI Scheme under the ‘National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage’, which is now poised for execution.
