After major automakers, MG Motor has queued to introduce its electric vehicles in India by 2020 and plans to invest in its manufacturing unit in Gujarat
Automaker MG Motor has announced that it will launch a global pure-electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) by 2020. It plans to release it after its compact SUV debuts in the Indian market in 2019. Michael Yang, executive director, SAIC Motor International Business, MG Motor’s parent firm, confirmed about the company’s contribution to India’s green campaign.
The director also said that MG Motor would ensure that its EVs stand out in the Indian market by adopting and utilizing the new-age technologies like artificial intelligence and the like.

The automaker has partnered with as many as 45 dealers to start its sales for compact SUVs first reaching out to around 100 touchpoints across India. It has planned to raise its current staff strength of 300 to 1500 by 2019. It also intends to expand its network in the innovation segment by joining hands with companies dealing with technology and industry. The company has revealed that the cars would be designed in the UK and China and built by engineers at its Halol facility in Gujarat. MG Motor has a capacity of 80,000 units per annum in its Gujarat plant, which it plans to raise to 200,000 units in the future.
