Luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz India has entered the electric vehicle (EV) space. It has launched a new brand called EQ as a product and technology ecosystem. Under the EQ brand, the company will launch its first EV, EQC EV in April 2020.
Martin Schwenk, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said, “With the launch of EQ we firmly announce Mercedes-Benz’s arrival into the new era of electro mobility. We want the EQ brand to create an ecosystem in which electric mobility is reliable, simple and at the same time exciting.”
EQC Edition 1886
The first EV named EQC Edition 1886, will be available in metallic high-tech silver. The car has a water-cooled on-board charger (OBC) with an output of 7.4 kW. It can for charged with alternating current (AC) at home and at public charging stations.
Mercedes-Benz also said that it has taken initiatives towards carbon neutrality. It added that, “Around 20 per cent of energy requirement at the manufacturing facility comes from renewable source, which is solar-powered. By the end of this quarter, the plan is to increase this to 45 per cent with installation that will cater to almost 45 per cent of the energy requirement of MB India. With this, we will be able to produce around 1.6 MW energy per year and reduce 2600 tons of carbon dioxide per year.”
