MediaTek has joined Arm Total Design to hasten product development for AI applications, by utilising Arm Neoverse CSS. This will leverage distinctive solutions and quicker market entry, says MediaTek.
On Tuesday, Taiwan-based MediaTek announced at Computex 2024 that it has joined Arm Total Design. Utilising Arm’s Neoverse Compute Subsystems (CSS) tailored for AI applications across various sectors, the semiconductor manufacturer hopes to capitalise on its System-on-Chip (SoC) integration design skills to offer solutions and accelerate time to market.
In their official statement, the Taiwanese fabless chipmaker stated that with Arm, they aim to assist their customers’ designs in meeting demanding AI workload requirements, optimising performance per watt. It has validated Arm’s Neoverse CSS to be a proven optimised module. However, no financial transactions between the two companies were disclosed.
The company hopes that using Neoverse CSS, its competence in SoC integration design can provide unique solutions and speed up product launches. Neoverse CSS will enable them to develop enhanced SoCs for specific application requirements, meeting the complex computing demands of AI in data centres, infrastructure systems, and telecommunications.
Vince Hu, MediaTek’s Corporate Vice President, has added that they would closely collaborate with Arm to extend their presence into data centres, leveraging their knowledge in hybrid computing, AI, SerDes, chiplets, and advanced packaging technologies to expedite AI advancements across edge and cloud platforms.
Mohamed Awad, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Arm’s Infrastructure Line of Business, sees AI fueling an increasing demand for enhanced computing power and efficiency. He mentioned that this collaboration builds upon their “longstanding partnership”, known for delivering numerous performance and energy-efficiency-oriented devices. Awad emphasised that MediaTek’s knowledge would contribute to the rapid development of sustainable, AI-driven cloud data centres using Arm Neoverse CSS.
MediaTek specialises in developing SoCs for mobile, connectivity, and IoT products. Currently, it is working on mobile performance, providing architecture design on Arm CPUs and Wi-Fi across various sectors. Arm focuses on speeding up product development using their Neoverse module. Their collaboration extends to automotive, Chromebooks, and IoT devices for diverse applications.
