Friday, September 26, 2014: Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in Bengal can bank upon I-Mark or Indian Design Mark as their dominant theme in order to impress the world market, as opined by experts. A Design Conference-Cum-Seminar was organised by CII in Kolkata where director of the National Institute of Design (NID), Pradyumna Vyas, said that West Bengal is known to be the home to several MSMEs which produce several types of products.
But now, as Vyas said, what West Bengal requires the most is more and more investments in design in order to boost the value chain. MSMEs are allowed to get 60 per cent waiver on application for I-Mark tag, as per a subsidy scheme by the Centre. The Design Conference-Cum-Seminar was organised in order to motivate large industries to endorse the strategic role design, as told by CII Eastern Region Innovation Taskforce chairman Aloke Mookherjea.
Vyas also said that I-Mark is a route to making the design to the G-Mark, which means reaching the highest quality marking in industrial designing in Japan. At Shantiniketan, the first designing school of the country, was set up and people of West Bengal are known for their aesthetic sense and expertise in technology. Vyas said, that is the main reason why West Bengal has been chosen to promote awareness about the necessity of good design. Road shows are being arranged as a part of the awareness programme.
