The escalation of EVs launched by major OEMs in India will bring the nation close to the inflection point, which is currently around 5 percent.
For the first time, the biennial automotive show Auto Expo 2025 will witness the largest number of electric vehicle launches. Major manufacturers such as Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, JSW MG, and many others have joined the league to present their top-notch pollution-free vehicles.
The global auto show, which is scheduled to commence on January 17 will observe a massive product launch, including Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) segment, such as Maruti Suzuki’s maiden e-car (based on EVX Concept), Hyundai e-Creta, Ioniq6 and mass-market EV, Tata Sierra EV & Altroz EV, BYD Seagull, MG Bingo, Mercedes Benz EQG, and many other. According to media sources, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Tata Motors, JSW MG Motor, Kia India, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) are likely to launch new EV models in India during the show.
In a press conference, Maruti Suzuki revealed that the company would launch its first electric car priced above Rs 10 Lakh at the expo. The unnamed car is likely to run 500 kilometres (km) on a single full charge. According to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the company is all set to create a complete EV ecosystem.
Hyundai Motor India, on the other hand, is expected to unveil the new EV variants, the Creta SUV and the Ioniq 6 premium EV, which would carry a price tag of Rs 65 Lakh. Targeting the micro-electric SUV segment, Hyundai will also showcase its major rival to Tata Punch EV, the Hyundai Inster.
Tata Motors, spearheading India’s electric vehicle segment, will launch its new range of BEV cars at various price tags. Tata Altroz EV, Tata Harrier EV and Tata Sierra EV are speculated to be launched during the expo, claims unnamed sources. Tata’s rival M&M, will also showcase its new series of EVs XUV.e8 — the electric variant of XUV7OO, launched earlier this year. But the price of XUV.e8 will be revealed during the show, says M&M.
JSW MG Motor India is gearing up to launch its new EV, Bingo. The five-door electric hatchback is expected to be a significant competitor to Tata Tiago.ev. The EV is expected to be priced around Rs 8.5-10.5 lakh. When the spokesperson was enquired about further details, they refused to comment as it has yet to be officially announced.
VinFast Auto Limited, a Vietnamese manufacturer, will join the Indian global automotive show for the first time. VF6, VF7, VF8, and VF9 are some models highly anticipated to be showcased at the event. Again, an unidentified source told the media that the much-awaited pure electric mini e-SUV catering to the Indian market will not be launched at the expo.
China’s leading EV maker, BYD, will launch its cheapest car, Seagull, at Rs 10 Lakh. In the luxury segment, Mercedes Benz is all set to unleash the premium EQG for Rs 3.5 Crore. The company is also speculated to showcase the EQC e-SUV, which is expected to be launched next year.
