A new project has been adopted by the Maharashtra State Warehousing Corporation (MSWC). Under this project, the corporation will utilise the roofs of its warehouses for generating solar power.
A tender process has been initiated by MSWC for the project and it has started seeking advice from consultants who will not only study the technical aspects but also identify preferable locations to install solar power generation units. Primarily, it is aiming to generate about 10MW solar energy and then the project is expected to be extended in coming five years.
“The corporation has warehouse complexes at more than 150 centres all over the state. There are more than 770 warehouse units constructed on an area of about 100 lakh sq ft with a capacity of more than 14 lakh metric tonnes. Officials said the roofs of the warehouses covered a huge area,” reports TOI.
An official said that a panel of consultants is expected to submit its detailed project report (DPR) within two months after the appointment. And further tender will be called depending on the DPR. It will then decide that how much area will be used for the installation of the solar power technology.
“The project will include generation facilities and distribution of solar power to the warehouse centre and sell it to the MSEDCL through a power purchase agreement. The work is in its initial stage and will take another six to eight months to kick start,” said the official.
