Lohit became the first district in Arunachal to launch energy efficient LED bulbs and LED tube lights at subsidized rates under UJALA Yojana scheme of the Central Government.
With this, 9W LED Bulbs and 20W LED tube lights will now cost a minimal of Rs 70 and 230 respectively, a marked reduction from the current market prices.
According to The Arunachal Times the UJALA scheme was formally launched on 5th January, 2015 by PM Narendra Modi. The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (ESSL), a Guwahati-based company has tied up with the APEDA to launch the scheme in Arunachal Pradesh. Interestingly, although the scheme is yet to be formally launched in the state, Lohit has garnered a head start by becoming the first district to implement it.
Launching the energy efficient bulbs and tubes here, Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf termed this occasion as a major thrust towards making the district energy sufficient. Taking a cue from Neil Armstrong’s historic moon landing, Ashraf said the launch of such affordable and efficient materials was a “small step for Lohit, but a giant leap for its citizens”.
