Tuesday, September 10, 2013: Light India International 2013 ( Lii2013) will be organised by the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE) at the Chennai Trade Centre from September 13-16, 2013. ISLE is a professional registered body in the field of illumination engineering with a broad-based membership of scientists, engineers, architects, academicians, researchers and designers. ISLE is affiliated to CIE, the International Commission on Illumination. It is closely associated with the Bureau of Indian Standards, the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Power and Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources. The main stakeholders of Lii are the manufacturers, importers of lighting equipments, dealers, R&D institutions, builders, electrical contractors, architects, lighting designers, interior designers, hospitality industry engineers and the knowledgeable general public.
Lii2013 will publicise the developments taking place in the lighting industry and provide excellent marketing opportunities for all the products and services available in the lighting industry. The exhibition will showcase a wide range of products over a 16,500sq m exhibition area at the Chennai Trade Centre, covering residential, commercial and retail lighting, industrial lighting, etc.
Impact of this event
To the general public, the only exposure to emerging trends in the lighting industry is through platforms such as this. The purpose of allocating timings to the general public is to encourage visitors to get a hands-on feel of the various new products in the specialised areas. Practically, every participating company introduces at least one new product at such international events to enhance their image and get the benefit of the maximum publicity.
Who should exhibit
All manufacturers involved in lamps, LEDs, luminaires and their accessories, including the control gear and allied items, should participate in the event. Publications, consultancy services, and lighting design software companies working in the lighting industry will also take part in the event. It is a proven fact that the small industries supplying accessories for lighting, benefited more than the big firms during the last Lii2011. They had acquired many new clients and hence they have been the first to come forward to register for Lii2013. This is an opportunity to open up new avenues and interact with all people connected to the industry.
Concurrent events at Lii2013
Among the many parallel events planned for this exhibition are a technical seminar on the emerging trends in green lighting concepts for a greener world with international faculty; technical presentations by engineering students; awards ceremonies; product presentations by select companies; group meetings of the A-grade electrical contractor’s association and the wiremen association as well as cultural meets.
New technologies to be unveiled
New developments in the solar and LED lighting fields will be showcased, along with the latest on energy saving equipment in lighting.
Future of lighting sector
Lighting concepts are undergoing a total change with the advent of LED and the green concepts. It is a good sign that the government is taking the lead to popularise the use of solar energy and LEDs in a very big way. Over and above this, the mindset of the general public has now been fully tuned to energy-saving and LED concepts. As the demand grows, the scaling up of manufacturing will bring down costs and LEDs are going to be the future—we have no choice but to go along with it. The advantage of LED is that small entrepreneurs are now becoming a major source for the supply of luminaries and accessories. Even though the beginning of the new era of LEDs was dominated by Chinese products offered at the cheapest prices, the market is now stabilising with India-made products. Indian manufacturers are striving equally hard to cope up with the emerging trends and have already introduced state-of-the-art LED luminaires and solar streetlight systems at reasonable prices.
