LG Electronics introduces in-drive software in India to help overcome technical challenges and enhance in-vehicle experience for drivers and passengers.
On Tuesday, LG Electronics announced its collaborative efforts with several car manufacturers, including Hyundai and Kia, to launch its flagship LG AlphaWare software in India within a few years. This collaboration is a critical step in LG Electronics’ transition to becoming a ‘smart-life solution’ company from a ‘home appliance’ company.
The Indian car market, led by Maruti-Suzuki with a current market share of 42%, doesn’t offer LG much choice to expand its product sales in the country. The option to launch AlphaWare will not only enable LG Electronics to boost profits and revenues but also pave the way for significant business growth in the future. This strategic move to launch in-drive software in India is available only to three car manufacturers – Volkswagen, Kia, and Hyundai.
The Alphaware software, meticulously designed with the user at the centre, will deliver an “immersive” in-cabin experience. It consists of two software programs. One software is PlayWare, an entertainment platform that enhances the in-vehicle infotainment experience by delivering high-definition content and superior sound quality. Leveraging LG’s partnerships with major streaming apps, sports and news channels, PlayWare brings the LG TV experience into the car.
The other software is ‘MetaWare’, which enhances the driving experience by leveraging augmented- and mixed-reality technologies to deliver meaningful information across various displays, from ‘augmented-reality head-up display’ (AR HUDs) to clusters and central panels.
These software work together to enhance the user’s in-vehicle experience. It empowers mobility providers to overcome technical challenges and deliver home-like comfort and connectivity to drivers and passengers.
