Lenovo is eyeing to regain market share by focusing equally on its online and offline sales of the personal computers and smartphones business
Lenovo has revealed that it has clocked a smartphone sale of Rs. 6881 crores in India in FY2018. The multinational technology brand’s profit in the smartphone segment was recorded at Rs. 51.9 crores in the last fiscal.
Lenovo India’s revenue from the PC segment stands at Rs. 6,718 crores as per FY18 Registrar of Companies (RoC) filings. The previous fiscal recorded an overall sale of Rs. 12,004 crores, which included smartphone and PCs.
Lenovo smartphone expansion plan
Earlier, in October, the company announced that it would increase its smartphone manufacturing capacity to 1 million units per month from 2019. Edward Chang, Lenovo Group Vice President, had revealed that the PC – mobile brand’s current capacity of 100,000 would be taken to around 500,000 to 1 million-mark by the later part of 2019.
The buzz was that the brand had taken an exit from its smartphone business and shifted its focus on its personal computers business. However, the Lenovo VP had clarified that the brand would be focusing equally on the two segments.
Partnership with Flipkart
Lenovo had tied up with Flipkart to ramp up its smartphone sales. The latter will be featuring the brand’s new launches to ensure that the potential buyers are drawn towards the products. The revenue of Rs. 6,881 crores could be a contribution from both online and offline sales.
Chang says that Lenovo currently focuses on brand experience. It is also exploring Smart Internet of Things (IoT). The PC-mobile maker plans to venture into wearable devices and by 2019 it has announced to introduce its flagship phone with the support of Flipkart in India.
