The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) the nodal agency of MNRE will provide street lighting to all panchayats in Andhra Pradesh with 28 W LED lights with 100 per cent subsidy soon.
The inauguration of pilot programme is set on December 9 at Rajamahendravaram for which NREDCAP MD, M Kamalakar Babu will attend.
As part of this, 1,016 panchayats in East Godavari will be provided with the facility in a phased manner to save power and expenditure of respective panchayats.
As part of this power saving mission, the programme will be taken up on pilot basis with one panchayat each in all 64 mandals in the district. Under this programme, the NREDCAP will replace all the existing street lighting system with LED lamps irrespective of type and number.
This process is expected to save big for panchayats concerned as several of these are reeling under financial crunch for various reasons. East Godavari NREDCAP district manager G Satyanarayana said that after completion of the pilot programme and all the 64 mandals in the entire district will be covered in three phases. The entire programme will be taken up on 100 per cent subsidy though MNRE scheme, the DM revealed.
