The Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and Hero Solar Energy Pvt Ltd on Tuesday endorsed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 4 MWp of solar power, which comprises installation of solar panels on the rooftop of 22 Metro stations and buildings in the Metro yard.

This is the first ‘Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO)’ model project in Kerala.
According to an official release on Tuesday, it has been stated that the phase-I of the Kochi Metro Rail project features 22 stations and one depot. The installation capacity of the rooftop project is 4 MWp. In the RESCO model, the vendor will make the entire investment of nearly `27 crore, and take up operation and maintenance, while the KMRL will buy power from the vendor. Tenders were invited, and the work was awarded to Hero Solar Energy.
The release has also been notified that it is the lowest rate for which any metro project in India is getting solar power.
