The Kerala state government’s attempt to popularise solar based small-scale power plants in Thiruvananthapuram has got a good response from the public with the Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology (ANERT) receiving around 4,000 applications for establishing power plants of 1 kWp capacity. ANERT’s director has reportedly said that its target is to set up 10,000 rooftop solar power plants in the current fiscal year. The beneficiaries of the said scheme would get around
Rs 0.12 million as a subsidy from the state and central governments. The selected households will have to spend around Rs 0.1 million for setting up a plant. The electricity department hopes to generate 10 MW power by setting up 10,000 such units.
Several companies had come forward to partner with ANERT on the project, which will empanel at least 20 top-rated companies to provide technical assistance.
