India’s largest-ever floating solar power plant becomes operational in Kerala on Monday. The power plant has a capacity of 500 kilowatts (KW). The installation works of the floating solar panels were completed in October this year.
“The solar power plant that floats on the surface of the water has a capacity of 500 kilowatts (KW). This is the country’s largest floating solar plant,” the official release issued by Kerala State Electricity Board read.
The floating solar plant has been constructed by Ad Tech systems based out of Thiruvananthapuram. It’ll generate seven lakhs unit of power every year, the total cost of the project is around rupees 9.25 crores.
ET reported the solar plant of the Kerala state electricity board (KSEB) floats on 1.25 acres of the water surface of the reservoir. The solar plant has 1,938 solar panels which have been installed on 18 ferro cement floaters with hollow insides.
A 500 KVA (Kilo volt ampere) transformer, 17 inverters, a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to control and monitor power generation and an anchoring system are part of the floating solar project.
