Industries minister Jagadish Shettar said that the Karnataka state government will develop four districts as an integrated electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) clusters in collaboration with global companies. These clusters will be developed in Chikkaballapura, Mysuru, Kolar, and Dharwad districts.
Shettar also said that plots of lands required to develop clusters have been identified in these districts. The industries department has also had discussions with 87 companies. He added that more than 10 companies will invest in the state. Shettar added that the government was committed to the industrial development of tier two and tier three cities.
Product Focussed Industrial Cluster Development Program
He further said that the government has introduced an initiative for the development of an industrial ecosystem called Product Focussed Industrial Cluster Development Program. Through these product-specific manufacturing, clusters are being developed across the state.
Gaurav Gupta, principal secretary, commerce and industries said that Karnataka is one of the top states in the country when it comes to chip design sector. It contributes 40 per cent to electronic design and 30 per cent to electronics manufacturing in the country. It is also home to about 30 per cent of ESDM companies.
Special package to investors
Gupta added that Mysuru is the ideal location for eco-friendly ESDM activities while Dharwad is best for innovative electronics manufacturing related activities. The government will provide a special package to investors who come forward to invest in this sector. It will also provide world-class infrastructure.
