With an aggressive aim to attract investments in electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) in India, Union Minister for Communications & IT Kapil Sibal urged the states also to support the efforts of the Central government in getting investment for ESDM in India.
At a recent meeting with the chief ministers and ministers of state governments, Kapil Sibal emphasised on the vital role the state governments can play in this endeavour, he urged the states to create a “pro-investment environment” and facilitate with availability of land, water, roads and training infrastructure, which will help in developing skilled manpower in the state, also needed for manufacturing activities.
At the meeting J Satyanarayana, secretary, DeitY, informed that proposals for investment worth Rs.45 billion have already been received under the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) scheme, for seeking incentive for setting up manufacturing facilities in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Haryana, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The government has also received six proposals/intents for setting up of greenfield clusters in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.
J Satyanarayana further informed that already 12 brownfield clusters have been notified in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
