Reliance Jio Infocomm has dispatched the first batch of its 4G featurephones and plans to complete delivery of 6 million orders by Diwali.
According to media reports, the Mukesh Ambani telco informed a customer via its Twitter handle that delivery of the JioPhone has started in a phased manner to avoid inconvenience and “all customers who have done the pre-booking of JioPhone will receive it by Diwali,” which is on October 19.
The CyberMedia Research also confirms that a total of 61.8 million mobiles were shipped in the second quarter of 2017. With 6 million units of sale, JioPhone is estimated to account for around 10 percent of India’s total mobile phone market in a quarter.
Jio has said it aims to deliver 100-150 million phones over six months (5 million a week), but people close to the company have said it was also bracing for competition from other feature phone makers.
Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani had announced that voice calling for customers of JioPhone would always be free and they would get unlimited data for a month against a payment of Rs. 153.
JioPhone will come with pre-loaded Jio apps for messaging and entertainment. The phone can be connected with television sets for watching live TV using the Jio TV app.
