May 4, 2015: A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been signed between State Government of Jharkhand and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd., a public undertaking of the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India in Ranchi for taking up Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS) through a Joint Venture Company to be promoted by NTPC and Jharkhand Bidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd. (JBVNL) with 74:26 equity participation.
This MoA will be a great step towards:
- Performance improvement of existing station from 15% PLF to 82% to give more power to Jharkhand immediately
- Build an efficient Super Critical project of 4000 MW in 2 phases
- Provide cheap and affordable 27X7 power supply to every household and adequate power for farmers in Jharkhand
- Enable rapid industrialization which will provide massive employment to youth of Jharkhand in new industry
Government of Jharkhand will become a partner in this project without investing any additional capital.
The JV Company will give employment to all the employees working in this old station and will increase earning opportunities to many service providers to this important project of the size of a UMPP.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (I/C) for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State (I/C) for Skill Development and Parliamentary Affairs, Sudarshan Bhagat, Minister of State for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking water, Raghubar Das, Chief Minister, Jharkhand and Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC.
