Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) is set to transform public transport as it prepares to launch a trial run of a prototype electric bus model in the city. Under the smart city project, both Jammu and Srinagar will witness the arrival of a fleet of 200 eco-friendly electric buses, marking a step towards promoting sustainability in the region.
Taking on this responsibility, Tata Motors will spearhead the delivery, management, and maintenance of the 200 electric buses in both cities, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
Meanwhile, Chalo Mobility will contribute with state-of-the-art consumer technology solutions, introducing Electronic Ticket Issuing Machines (ETIMs), an Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS), and a user-friendly mobile app offering mobile tickets and passes platform, smart cards platform, and cloud-based hosting.
JSCL officials stated that the trial run will commence once the prototype electric bus is received, and upon successful trials, the full-fledged operation will begin. The electric buses come with a variety of advanced features, making sure passengers are safe and comfortable.
Keeping safety as a priority, these buses are equipped with panic buttons, CCTV cameras, and location systems. Commuters will also benefit from real-time updates on bus schedules through user-friendly mobile applications.
