Iveco Bus has secured its most significant contract for zero-emission vehicles in Italy, valued at over 300 million euros. The contract involves delivering 411 battery electric vehicles to ATAC, the public transport company of Italy’s capital city.
Iveco Bus, the urban, intercity, and tourist bus brand under the umbrella of the Iveco Group, has recently achieved a significant milestone by securing its most substantial electric bus contract in Italy. The contract entails the provision of 411 battery electric vehicles to ATAC SpA (Azienda per la mobilità), the prominent public transport company serving Italy’s capital city.
Valued at more than 300 million euros, this contract aligns with ATAC’s strategic vision to enhance mobility by adopting more sustainable, efficient, and accessible transportation solutions. The comprehensive tender not only encompasses cutting-edge electric buses, available in lengths of either 12 or 18 meters, but also incorporates a 10-year full-service maintenance plan for each unit.
Anticipated to commence by the end of 2024, the initial deliveries mark the beginning of a transformative journey toward a greener and more efficient public transportation system for Rome. The remaining buses are slated for delivery by mid-2026, contributing significantly to the realization of ATAC’s long-term sustainability objectives.
Domenico Nucera, the President of the Bus Business Unit at the Iveco Group, expressed pride in being a pivotal player in Rome’s shift towards eco-friendly and efficient mobility. He highlighted the growing recognition of Iveco Bus’s robust electric passenger transport offerings within the Italian market and globally, solidifying the brand’s position as a leading partner. Nucera emphasized the significance of extending this impact to Italy’s capital, the ‘Eternal City,’ as an auspicious start to 2024 following a highly satisfactory year in terms of orders for the Iveco Bus.
