The Intersil-Renesas solution provides 24-bit low noise precision signal conditioning with a complete analog-to-digital front-end.
Intersil Corporation has joined hands with Renesas Electronics Corporation to develop a sensor signal conditioning solution for thermocouple, pressure and strain gauges. The companies will demonstrate the new solution, which is being distributed through Avnet Memec, at Embedded World February 26-28 in Nuremberg, Germany.
The pressure and strain gauge sensor signal conditioning designs use a combination of Intersil analog front ends coupled with a Renesas RL78/G13 microcontroller for extracting small sensor signals. Gain, filter, and digital conversion are completed then delivered to the RL78 MCU for further digital processing.
The Intersil-Renesas solution provides 24-bit low noise precision signal conditioning with a complete analog-to-digital front-end including the ISL28617, a low noise 40V instrumentation amplifier with integrated ADC driver, the ISL28134, a 5V low noise zero drift op amp, the ISL26102 24-bit delta sigma converter, and the ISL21090, an ultra low noise precision bandgap voltage reference, among others. Software interface is included for evaluation purposes.
The entire demo is powered from a debugger mini USB connection (or an optional 5V power supply) located on the Renesas RL78/G13 Demonstration Kit. The +12V, +10V, and ±5V supplies on the Intersil board are generated from the 3.3V supply on the Renesas board. The power supply design uses Intersil’s ICL7660 voltage converter, ISL80138 linear regulator and ISL97516 step-up regulator.
Combining the low-power capabilities of Renesas’ RL78 MCUs with Intersil’s high-precision analog expertise provides customers with a complete solution to help bring applications to market quickly and efficiently. The new AFE-MCU solution is targeted toward industrial, medical and data acquisition applications. Each includes a sensor, signal conditioning circuits, and a Renesas microcontroller.
