Monday, December 02, 2013: Intel is reportedly working on something called perceptual technology. This is technology, which lets computers and other devices interpret and understand what is going on around it. One of the leading chip makers in the world, Intel’s processors power over 80 per cent PCs over the world, but the company hasn’t been able to make much noise in smartphones and other mobile devices. It’s not giving up hope though.
According to a CNET report, the company is spending a significant number of resources toward this project. The report quoted Anil Nanduri, who is amongst those in charge of the project, saying that features like gesture recognition, voice etc. should make devices more intuitive, natural and immersive. He says that perceptual computing aims to make computers more like humans.
Through this, machines will be able to sense the emotions of a person and detect biometric data just through their cameras. They will understand commands such as “play me some jazz” and will be able to hold complete conversations with the users. They will also be able to create more realistic augmented reality effects and will be able to detect and do much more than usual.
Intel is reportedly putting more focus on vision. This is apparently made possible through 3D cameras and the chip maker has apparently partnered with Creative for the same.
