Infineon Technologies, alongside Swoboda—an innovator and manufacturer of high-precision components and systems for the automotive industry—are collaborating to develop and market advanced current sensor modules tailored for automotive applications.
This partnership leverages Infineon’s top-tier current sensor ICs and Swoboda’s specialized knowledge in sensor module development and industrialization to meet the increasing demands for sensing solutions in hybrid and electric vehicles. Their joint efforts aim to produce high-performance current measurement solutions that hasten the launch of products for widespread applications such as traction inverters and battery management systems, along with other critical automotive technologies.
The initial product from this collaboration, the Swoboda CSM510HP2, showcases a fully encapsulated current sensor module that offers a significantly smaller footprint without sacrificing performance. It utilizes the coreless Infineon TLE4973 current sensor IC for high-accuracy sensing, maintaining a total error under 2 per cent. This module is designed for flawless integration with the HybridPACK Drive G2, Infineon’s automotive power module for electric vehicle traction inverters, eliminating the necessity for separate external current sensors and thus enabling the most compact traction inverter solutions on the market.
Klaus Lebherz, Head of Business Development at Swoboda, remarked that the new generation of current sensors establishes a new standard for simplified system integration. He noted that the synergy between Infineon’s latest sensor technology and Swoboda’s injection moulding expertise has proven highly effective.
Andrea Monterastelli, Head of the Automotive Magnetic Sensors Product Group at Infineon Technologies, observed that the industry demands current sensing solutions that are high-performance, compact, and easy to integrate. He elaborated that the perfect fit of these sensors with Infineon’s HybridPACK Drive G2 leads to the most streamlined solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles, facilitated by the advanced current sensor ICs from Infineon and Swoboda’s specialized skills.
Infineon and Swoboda are continuing to expand their range of current sensing solutions, aiming to accommodate various power devices. Future targets include applications like inverter DC links and high voltage battery management systems, among others.
