As Gujarat awaits India’s first semiconductor fab in Dholera, CM Bhupendra Patel announced its Rs 1 trillion investment in electronics and Rs 50 billion aid to renewable energy during Independence Day celebrations.
On Thursday, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that Gujarat will host India’s first indigenous semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera and witness the ‘Made in India’ chip during Independence Day celebrations in Nadiad, Kheda district.
He further emphasised the state’s achievements, noting that Gujarat has attracted Rs 1 trillion in electronics and semiconductors investments, mainly due to the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit’s role in drawing investments in technologies like AI and chips.
The 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit was held from January 10-12, 2024, at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Organised by Gujarat’s government with CII and iNDEXTb, the summit highlighted semiconductors, green hydrogen, space tech, and renewable energy. The event saw participation from 28 nations and 14 organisations, with MoUs for 41,299 projects worth Rs 26.33 trillion.
On renewable energy, Patel revealed Gujarat’s goal to install 100 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, focusing on the state’s solar rooftop initiatives. He also shared plans to provide free electricity to 1 million houses under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, claiming Gujarat’s track record of meeting ambitious targets set by the Prime Minister.
In his speech, Patel disclosed an update to the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), increasing the monthly income limit for free food grains eligibility from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 to cover more families under the scheme.
He outlined plans for major infrastructure improvements, including a Rs 50 billion investment in road development, highlighting the ‘Viksit Bharat’ or ‘developed nation’ target by 2047.
Patel claimed Gujarat’s second-place ranking in the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, with over 72.5 million trees planted, reiterating the state’s progress in technology, welfare, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.
