On Monday, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) inaugurated its battery-swapping station for electric vehicles (EVs) in Kolkata. Situated at its retail outlet in New Town on the city’s eastern fringes, this facility was launched in partnership with Sun Mobility, as per the company’s announcement. The statement highlighted that this initiative is a significant stride in fostering sustainable and accessible electric mobility solutions throughout the city.
The introduction of battery-swapping technology for two and three-wheeler EVs is emerging as a transformative factor in India. IOC’s Marketing Director, V Satish Kumar, mentioned that this technology offers a substantial prospect for endorsing sustainable electric mobility solutions. He emphasized that the new facility is expected to be instrumental in increasing EV adoption and leading the charge for an energy transition in Eastern India.
In the forthcoming months, IOC plans to expand its collaboration with Sun Mobility by setting up additional battery-swapping stations at its retail outlets. This expansion aims to provide drivers with an accessible and efficient solution, enabling them to quickly exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones, thus reducing turnaround times and enhancing the convenience of using EVs.
Anant Badjatya, CEO of Sun Mobility, further explained that their cutting-edge technology is set to drive mobility into the future and address critical challenges faced by EV users.
