In an attempt to bring down the cost of renewable energy (RE) systems, India is working on a comprehensive plan for creating special renewable energy zones, said Farooq Abdullah, minister for new and renewable energy (MNRE).
Abdullah was addressing at the foundation day ceremony of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). He said, “As a result of efforts made during the past two decades, significant infrastructure has emerged for the manufacture of different renewable energy systems.”
Abdullah said to leverage the expertise the country has developed in the field over the years, India can establish itself as a hub for manufacturing renewable energy systems, devices and their components.
“Apart from catering to the growing export market, the other advantages of the proposed RE manufacturing hubs would be in terms of a bringing down the costs of renewable energy systems,” he added.
