Wednesday, October 09, 2013: With the change in environment, green buildings are expected to rise. These green buildings protect environment by using non-toxic materials like solar panels, wind turbines, and others to help in energy conservation. For those who are not aware, Green building refers to a structure that is environmentally responsible and resource efficient.
The number of green buildings are expected to grow from 2,204 to about 1,00,000 by 2025 in India. This has been reported by the Indian Green Building Council.
Satish BN, executive director at Knight Frank property consultancy, told DNA, “We are seeing a lot of interest from clients who include IT and ITeS firms for green buildings. They have understood the concept and are appreciating the benefits.” Syed Mohamed Beary, chairman of IGBC said, “Green buildings can help save a lot of energy. The energy savings can be as high as 15,000 MWh, while water savings can be 45,000 kl.”
Such buildings are said to save about 15-20 per cent of the total running and maintenance cost of a building.
